Every American should read this book and demand action from their political leaders at the State and Federal level. Mutually Assured Destruction is no longer the nexus of global deterrence. In an age of invisible and escalating cyber warfare and increasingly dangerous and unpredictable global adversaries, it is the electrical grid takedown scenario that threatens America’s very survival as a nation. As the Congressional EMP Commission concluded back in 2008, a nationwide takedown of our electrical grid lasting a year or longer could result in the deaths of 90% of the US population due to starvation, disease and societal collapse. And because of our total dependence on electricity for our way of life as well as our national defense, the nearly complete lack of protection and hardening of our national electrical grid means we are more vulnerable than we have ever been at a time when the risk is both high and increasing. Dr. Pry details how weather events have taken down our power grid all over the US. Obviously we need upgrades.
He detailed a (Russian?) hack on the Ukraine that was short, but meticulously executed to take out their electrical substations and even made their control rooms go dark despite backup batteries. Everything was hacked. The US isn't quite as vulnerable, but we are somewhat.
Our power grid is not at all protected against an EMP or severe solar event and it needs to be. We've known about the EMP threat for 50+ years, but we have not protected our electric grid. We need to do this proactively, or we won't be able to at all.
Tell your Federal and State Representatives about this book and that you support hardening our grid (which you will after reading this book, or any of Dr. Pry's on the subject).

The book discusses the possibility of an Electromagnetic Pulse attack that could disable the grid, communications and various electronics. What defenses are our leaders offering to protect us from a possible long blackout. Enough hot air to float a fleet of hot air baloons. If this has been perfected it would likely be the way an enemy state attacks.

I just started reading this book and have become quite interested. I heard about this book watching one of the Prepping videos on YouTube. Even in my beginning reading I am seeing how much is involved in restoring power. And realize how many things we’d go without without electricity. I may even take some notes showing a timeline of all the catastrophes that are listed. The facts are so surreal to think about. Even without warfare it is scary enough to think about.
